Just Like Us is an awarded non-fiction play set in Denver in early 2000s, inspired by Helen Thorpe’s bestselling book. It follows four Latina teenage girls whose close-knit friendship is tested by the realities of immigration status.

This was definitely one of the most intricate productions I’ve ever designed. Following the four girls from high school through college and into marriage meant exploring a wide range of styles and key moments in their lives.

Many actors played multiple characters with fast changes, which required the creative use of wigs, mustaches, headpieces, and countless accessories. The fast costume changes - including some happening on on stage, demanded detailed planning and extensive rehearsals. It was an amazing project, and the incredible cast and backstage wardrobe team were essential in bringing my vision to life.
